Counseling Department

Welcome! My name is Katie Giacometti and I am the School Adjustment Counselor at South Grafton Elementary School.

While some children are referred to meet with me by their classroom teachers, I also always encourage parents to reach out directly if they are looking for help so that we can work on finding some help together.

What does a School Adjustment Counselor do?

As this is a new position at the school, allow me to share a bit of what we may work on throughout your child's time at SGES.  My job is largely focused on helping your child manage all things related to their social-emotional feelings and behaviors. Whether I am doing full class lessons on social-emotional regulation, meeting with children for lunch bunch groups or meeting individually to work on IEP goals and/or issues that pop up during the year; I am here to help both them and you navigate these early years in their lives.

Common reasons children may be referred to meet with the School Adjustment Counselor are:

  • Managing big feelings

  • Transitioning to school

  • Managing major life changes (divorce, grief, etc)

  • Learning coping skills
