PBIS In Action at SGES
Every day we are working with your children to become the best students and learners they can be. A huge part of that is how we utilize our PBIS program. Check out the information below to learn a bit more about what we do here at South Grafton Elementary School.
Here at South Grafton Elementary School, we treat others kindly, are ready to learn and strive for a safe and positive school for all. To compliment that effort, Our school has developed a set of expectations or rules for your child’s behavior at school. We will teach these expectations to all of our students, and we will recognize students who meet them. This is a part of our PBIS program which stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Supports.

As part of our PBIS process, teachers and other staff members use evidence-based practices to increase student learning and decrease classroom disruptions. To keep students on the school- wide expectations in a positive manner, we do the following when teaching academics and behavior:
  • Constantly teach and refer to our school-wide expectations.
  • Provide students with more praise than correction.
  • Talk to students with respect using positive voice tone.
  • Actively engage everyone in the class during instruction.
  • Use pre-correcting, prompting, and redirecting as we teach.
Goals of PBIS
  • Increased instructional time
  • Reduction in the number of times students are out of class due to behavior
  • Increased academic achievement
  • Improvement in school climate
As a team, we have created videos to help teach our students the school-wide expectations for the Bathrooms, Hallways, Bus and Playgrounds. Please feel free to look at them and/or review them below:
What Are Our Students Working Toward at SGES?

As part of our PBIS program, students are able to earn incentives as individuals, as a classroom and as an entire school!

Every day, staff members are giving out Outstanding Ollie Necklaces to students who demonstrated excellent behavior at school. Each week, the names of those students are entered into a raffle and eligible to win prizes like, "skip the lunch line for the week" or lunch with the principal!

Every classroom also has a jar that they work to fill with Ollie erasers. Students may earn erasers for receiving a compliment from other staff, showing expected behaviors as a class at special, or for modeling excellent classroom behavior. When they fill their jar, the entire class wins a reward like "stuffy and pajama day" or "extra recess".

Finally, the entire school works together toward rewards. Each time a class fills a jar, they are working toward adding to the school goal. Full school rewards have included "turning Mrs. Wallace into an ice cream sundae" and a "glow stick party!"Image of a Glow Stick Party This Year
